Philadelphia Hotel Tax Rate Increase, July 2013

  • May 15, 2013 | Gail Cole

 Philadelphia's Old City.

There's a lot to do in Philadelphia during the summer. Bike paths meander through the city's parks and bump along cobblestone streets. History is everywhere, from the Liberty Bell to Independence Hall. There are outdoor concerts, outdoor restaurants, and outdoor movies. But if you want to sleep inside and take advantage of a lower tax rate on the city's hotel rooms, better get to Philly before July 1, 2013, when the hotel room rental tax increases to 8.5% from 8.2%.

The Philadelphia Department of Revenue is notifying (via mail) all current hotel room taxpayers about the change. It's also sending them new, 6 month 'Monthly Hotel Room Rental Tax' coupon books, to be used July through December.
