Jeff: It was a mess, a nightmare. And then of course the rates would change and all kinds of issues come up, become a very costly process. So number one it had to get automated to save money. Two, it had to get automated to save time. If you have multi-state tax, sales tax issues, hands down it's a no brainer. You gotta automate it.
Laura: I think that there was a lot of other bigger fish to fry and there wasn't enough brains to be devoted to sales tax. So, we let Avalara take some of the heat for us.
Shelley: Retail volume of our company was really growing and we were trying to manage it all by hand, and with so many sales tax rates, especially in the state of Washington, which is where we primarily do retail business. It's just impossible to manage without some help.
Mary Lou: We knew that there was nexus being created in additional states and so we needed something that was scalable.
Al: We chose automation because we were in too many different states. We were growing rapidly. We started off in Massachusetts, we grew to New York, New Jersey. And with three states it was fine and manageable, but as we started to grow across the country, it started to become less manageable being non-automated.
